A new kind of "Pot Holder"

Below are some pics of a project I've been working on. These are great for hot or cold dishes - especially piping hot dishes that need to be carried in the car. You won't burn your hands while trying to keep the dish safe in transit! Snaps keep the cover on and the pot secure in one direction, while holding the carrier finishes making it secure on all sides. They are machine washable (preshrunk) once the wooden handles and board are removed from the fabric.

Here are a couple fabric samples for carriers in the making -
more varieties to come!

I'm hoping to begin selling these soon, so if you would be interested in purchasing one, please leave a comment! Thanks! :)

We've come a long way baby...

Using the bday presents Jack got this year! This one's for Nana.. ;)

A butterfly (or moth?) flew into our home, and so we got to use Jackson's new butterfly catcher! We put the butterfly (...or MOTH?? not sure..) into Jack's new butterfly home. Too cool.

Posing next to his catch.

Jack was taking pics too, and decided to turn on me at the last second!

Here it is!!

Such a corn ball.

Discipline ideas from my cousin..

Most people nowadays think it improper to spank children, so I have tried other methods to control my kids when they have one of 'those moments.'

One that I have found very effective is for me to just take the child for a car ride during which I say nothing and give the child the opportunity to reflect on his or her behavior.

I don't know whether it's the steady vibration from the car, or just the time away from any distractions such as TV, Video Games, Computer, IPod, etc.

Either way, my kids usually calm down and stop misbehaving after our car ride together. I believe that eye to eye contact during these sessions is an important element in achieving the desired results.

Below is a photo of one of my sessions with my son, in case you would like to use the technique.

The month of MAY...

...coming soon!

Jackson's 3rd Biryhday!

Jackson had seen something about Chuck E. Cheese's, and wouldn't stop talking about it. Therefore, we thought it would be appropriate to take him there for his birthday! Dad, Mom, Jack, Hayden and Grammie went on the evening of Jack's birthday, and celebrated in style. ;) Then we came home and had a Choo-choo-train cake. It was simple. It was fun.

Happy Birthday to my favorite first born!

Setting up Skype with Papa and Nana so they can watch the birthday boy open their presents - bug catchers and butterfly homes!

Breakfast on the big day!

How old are you today??

Playing with one of Grammie's presents - a real camera!

What of it?

Mornings can be rough.

It is so hard trying to get a decent pose from this kid anymore.

A few things...

It's been a SUPER long time since we've posted, and I'm still catching up with April's pictures (as you can see below). Hopefully I'll be able to get completely caught up by the end of the week.

Meanwhile, Jackson has been up to his usual funny self. The other day he told me that "Dad is my favorite guy." SO sweet! They truly are pals. :) Of course, I had to ask him who his favorite girl was, and I 'innocently' asked if it was.. and then named a few girl's names... and he interrupted me and said "No, Mom!! YOU are my favorite girl!" lol.. whew. ;) He also informed me that "God makes some yucky stuff!", after looking at a book full slimy stuff (I forget exactly what it was).

Hayden is doing fabulously! He's pretty frustrated most of the day, however, b/c he can't quite get the crawling thing down. He's SO CLOSE... and yet no cigar. We have his 1yr appointment in a couple weeks, so we'll have more info on him soon. Otherwise, he still adores his brother, but will not be pushed around. He's learning very quickly how to fend for himself! :)

Mostly they both get along beautifully. In fact, the other night we had our first time of saying "You boys! Settle down in there, and get to sleep!" They were laughing and talking up a storm! Makes Nathan and I both smile to know we're at that stage with them. :)

I guess that's it for now! We're just keeping busy inside the house and out. The weather has been awesome, so we've enjoyed planting flowers, working in the yard, swimming, going to playgrounds, and having fun with lots of new friends in the area. Praise God for being in a "normal" family life now... so different from what we were doing a year ago. :)
